Dear Dad
Christmas Eve 2019 marks five years already since my father's passing. It's pretty crazy how quickly time goes by. I remember my father for his stories and the kick-ass things he did in life. Woodstock, Studio 54, chilling with Jimmy Hendrix and sniffing cocaine with Mick Jagger. He also shared his experience with LSD and told me that hallucinogenics were the gateway to opening up different parts of our minds, and I agree.
Today, I'm celebrating his memory, and I thought I would share an excerpt from my book Born to be a Badass. Part 1, Chapter 7, was a challenging chapter to write, as were many others. But, I believe it's always the difficult things in life that we need to see as blessings to push us to grow.
In this chapter, in particular, I had many moments that I had to step away to be able to return. I would have thought the emotional attachment would get easier after five years, but as I write and reconnect, certain vivid moments seem like they happened yesterday.
In any case, Happy Holidays to everyone, and I hope you guys enjoy the excerpt below:
That evening after my father's service, he came to me in my dream.
My whole family was present, and my father was as healthy as he could be. We all sat around a table while a movie played in the background. I turned to my father and said, "Dad, I need you. Why did you leave?" He replied as he sipped on his favorite cocktail, grey goose on the rocks, "I didn't leave. I will always be with you."
That morning, I woke up and needed the most oversized box of tissues for all the waterworks that went down. After I dried my tears, I decided it was time to get out of New York.
