Wave Of Emotions

"Be like Water" - Bruce Lee

It's crazy to think it's been six years since the date that my father passed away from cancer. The other day, I had a real good cry thinking about him. A wave of emotions still stirs up, especially around this time of year.

I also find myself reflecting on how far I've come along. A traumatic experience, my father's death, could have shaped me and my perspective for either better or worse. I chose for the better, and I recognize how this pivotal moment completely changed the course of my life.

It brought on momentum like a wave and was the push I needed to get out of a world filled with toxicity and relatively static. It wasn't easy, but I will never regret going through any of it because it made me grow into the human I am today.

Everyone goes through growth, and whether we like it or not, it is an unstoppable force. If you allow it, you can be in a natural flow, and if not, things tend to be a bit more complicated. Neither is right or wrong. And I believe, just like the power behind water, sometimes in life, we need to be smashed around to change, and other times we need to sit in the bliss of stillness.

I am beyond grateful for where I am today and for having a support system that loves me. Here in Bali, my partner and I will celebrate my father's life by watching the sunset, ordering take-out Chinese, one of my father's favorites, and watching Christmas movies.

I know my father is still with me, watching over me, and I believe it's more than he could ever be. My advice to anyone, not just during this time of year, would be to reach out and say I love you to those who matter. I wish everyone a safe and happy holiday!

Sending love & light

Lauren
