Healthy Habits
We all have habits, some that are healthy and some unhealthy. I've had many times where I undertook unhealthy habits. I used to surround myself with things that didn't serve my well-being, whether it was alcohol, drugs, relationships, sex, work, or eating.
First, I'm not going to sit here and bullshit you that I still don't engage in activities that would be considered unhealthy from time to time. Yes, I go through phases where I eat like shit, don't move my body, and on rare occasions, I go on a weekend bender.
The thing that's different now is that I accept my unhealthy habits and know I have the power and choice to change them at any time. It begins with understanding why you are engaging in something you know is not suitable for you.
For example, when I was in my teens, I was addicted to crystal meth. Yes, my addiction was physical, but on a deeper level, it was more mental and emotional. I didn't know it then, but the underlying reason for my drug use was a cry for help. I wanted to be accepted, loved, heard, and understood.
Once I began my journey towards self-love, I recognized that I don't need things outside myself to feel loved, accepted, worthy, and understood. All of these things are already within me. And this enabled me to change my unhealthy habits into healthier ones that I continue to integrate into my daily life, helping me grow and heal.
In short, changing any habit takes time. Nothing changes overnight, so being patient and kind to yourself is vital. If you are someone who has an unhealthy obsession you would like to change, try to find a healthy substitute. And if it's a physical habit like mine, I recommend reaching out for help and getting to the root cause of the issue. We are all capable of change.
Are your habits helping you grow or keeping you stagnating? Or are you not even aware of the habits that you have created for yourself?
Sending light & love
