Anyone who knows me knows I'm a deep lover of all living creatures, even bugs, that I will save from drowning in my pool. Animals can show us what really matters: unconditional love no matter what the circumstances.
Yesterday, I went for a hike with some friends, but before taking off early in the morning, I hesitated due to my body feeling sore from jiu-jitsu the day before. Then, in a split decision, I remembered how much I loved connecting with Mother Nature and decided to go. And without knowing, the universe had intended another course of action.
On our way, we ended up lost, still an adventure, and decided to take a different route. The new direction led us to find a dog in the middle of the road that had just been in a hit-and-run accident.
Not even thinking twice, my friend @lizziewrighty, who is a lot like me when it comes to helping all creatures, pulled over to stop traffic and get the poor thing out of the road. Some women kept screaming that he bites, but that still didn't stop me from wanting to be with him and help in any way that I could.
As we got him out of the road and in a safe place, I knew immediately that he was dying. I intuitively went into prayer mode, touched his body, and looked deep into his eyes. I told him that he wasn't alone, that it was okay to leave his sudden suffering, that he was safe, and that God would be waiting for him with immense love and peace.
Before taking his last breath, his owner showed up, which I believe was God's will for her to say goodbye. Communication with the owner was challenging since I didn't speak much Bahasa, nor did she speak English. Even so, there was still an unspoken connectedness and sharing of what always really matters: love.
As the unstoppable tears began to flow down my face and hers, I hugged her and shared the love from within. Then, not wanting to leave him on the side of the road, I picked up his weightless body to bring to the woman's home. It was a surreal feeling to carry a creature no longer part of this three-dimensional world.
As we pulled up to her home, I noticed her other dog. I could see the confusion on his face, and it broke my heart even more that his friend was no longer with him. I took one last feeling to his heart, and I knew nothing could be done to bring him back.
After saying our goodbyes and giving my deepest condolences, I clearly understood why we got lost. It was to be with the dog called Bruno in the last moments of his life.
Thank you, Bruno, for the unconditional love you brought into this world. Life is so short, and I am grateful to have been there with you in your last moments. Peace and love with you always.
